Congratulations to Flo Stahl
and the Avon Taxpayers Association.Their new website is both informative and
easy to navigate.
The following are excerpts from the Avon Taxpayers
Association Website:
The Avon Taxpayers
Association is a non-partisan group of citizens representing a cross-section of
Avon residents who are interested in how our
elected officials run our Town government and schools with the taxes levied on
our taxpayers.
We stand for efficiency in government, for care in
spending people's money, for greater citizen interest and involvement in the
financial and educational activities of the Town.
We monitor the actions of the Town Council, Board of
Education, Board of Finance and other town departments. We research the issues
and inform the community of significant matters. In short, we act as a watchdog
on Town government.
In 2004-05, many homes in Avon will see a
substantial increase in property tax due to the revaluation and the 7.5% tax
increase in the current proposed budget of $57.4 million. More than
3,200 detached residential homes (all valued under $300,000, most of which are
located in older neighborhoods), will shoulder a higher rate of increase
relative to other more expensive and newer homes. Please see Revaluation Summary. We have
compiled a list of the Top 100 streets that will bear the brunt of
the combined increase in property tax.The
list of the Top 100 streets also identifies the neighborhood
where each street belongs to.
In addition, we have also prepared an estimate of the amount of tax levy that
each home will receive in the coming year. The list is arranged in
alphabetical street order and can be accessed on this page (Please see "Detached Residential" pdf).
Although this list is unofficial, the tax estimates were based on a
mill rate of 24.50 mills applied to the 2003 valuation data obtained from the
Assessor's website. Data from the website are still being updated and may
differ slightly from data presented here.
